Hello!

Hi there! It’s so nice to meet you. My name is Hilary Morefield-Colman and I am a portrait photographer, digital artist, and media arts educator based in Ventura, CA. I have worked arts education for 10+ years and currently work as a high school photography & art teacher in Ventura Unified School District.

Prior to working in public education, I worked in the nonprofit sector as a teaching artist and museum educator in San Diego, Los Angeles, and in Bosnia-Herzegovina. I have taught & contributed to projects with: Wandering Film School, Santa Paula Art Museum, Outside the Lens, Venice Arts, Inner City Arts, Media Arts Center San Diego, Pigeonhole Productions and the High Tech High schools.

I have a Masters in Education (M.Ed) from California Lutheran University and a B.A. in Media Arts & Communications from UC San Diego.

I am currently a National Teacher-Leader for NAEA’s CAN Project (Connected Arts Network) and occasionally teach Art Methods courses as an adjunct faculty member at Cal Lutheran University.

Outside of teaching, I am a portrait photographer who captures images of individuals, couples, and families for affordable rates. I feel strongly everyone should have access to quality images of special moments. I am interested in capturing people as they are, with minimal retouching and a friendly, collaborative approach that focuses on candid ‘in the moment” shots and expressions. I also photograph events and branding for small companies and organizations.

Previous clients include: San Diego Diplomacy Council, San Diego Leadership Alliance, Tera Kaia, Outdoor Outreach, I Love A Clean San Diego, Kids Ocean Day, and the Medium Festival of Photography.

I love getting to share my passion for creativity with my students of all ages, and getting to pour the energy from my classroom into my creative work. They really do fuel each other. For this reason, I have developed a personal practice of digital art and photography alongside my student-artists. You can view these works under the digital art tab or on Instagram at @ms_morefield.
